Our Story
As a trained silversmith, Rock Candy's owner, Christa Tess Kalk, has a deep passion for jewelry-making. Her husband Jay is a talented lapidary artist and maker of the famous Minnestona necklaces (agate cut in the shape of Minnesota) and shares her love for rocks and gems. Together, they attend the world’s largest gem show in Tucson, Arizona every year, where they have created wonderful partnerships with vendors from around the world. As Christa’s previous business, Minnesota Makers, was coming to an end, she saw the perfect opportunity to expand her passion for rocks and gems by launching a new venture—Rock Candy. The concept debuted in Excelsior in summer 2024, taking up a space within Minnesota Makers, and it quickly became clear it was a hit. With the closure of Minnesota Makers officially announced in November 2024, it was revealed that Rock Candy would be opening as an independent store in March 2025, marking an exciting new adventure!
The dream has been to combine rocks and candy for the ultimate experience and here we are, in the shop where Rocks + Candy = Rock Candy!
